Sheet Metal Air Ducts
Constructed of galvanized steel or aluminum, these air ducts are the most common type of rigid air ducts. Therefore, sheet metal ducts are the most durable and are available in a variety of shapes including round, rectangular, or oval. In addition, because they are non-porous they are least likely to grow mold or mildew.
Fiberglass Lined Air Ducts
Some ducts are then further lined with internal or external fiberglass. This liner is used as an insulator to protect against heat loss or to avoid condensation. Further, a fiberglass liner also provides a sound reduction from the overall noise of the HVAC system.
Fiberboard Air Ducts
Fiberboard air ducts use boards of compressed resin bonded inorganic glass fibers for construction. They will have a foil face on the outside surface to serve as an air barrier and to eliminate water build-up. They are the most inexpensive types of air ducts, and also provide acoustical and thermal benefits.
Flexible Air Ducts
These are constructed using a spring steel wire helix, encapsulated in a 2-ply polymer plastic. Flexible air ducts are easy to install, in addition to being inexpensive and lightweight. One note when using these ducts is it is best to keep the airways as short and straight as possible. That way, you reduce the pathways and improve the efficiency of your system.
Properly sealed and insulated commercial HVAC ducts are important. This prevents air loss at the connections. Air loss will significantly increase your monthly energy expenses. Also, make sure and ask your HVAC service technician if your ducts need further insulation. Have more questions? Contact The Cleaning 1 Air today.
